A Book A Week

Taken from http://samluce.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Most-Frequently-Challenged-Book-ftr.jpg.

The start of my “a book a week” endeavour, until the end of 2016!

Even though I was a literature student in junior college, I read more texts during my National Service stint than all the preceding years combined, and even started a personal book club of musings mainly for the fictional ones. Since then I’ve finished a book on occasion, and also read a larger number of graphic novels, but this low frequency is far from healthy.

I could blame the monotony of schools readings and the many commitments to balance, or even that my diet of online articles and essays is sufficient. Yet reading as a habit is crucial for a writer, especially with the exposure to diverse perspectives.

So the “a book a week” endeavour will start next week. In this routine, I will:
– Read a book a week (or two, if the text is a little longer), until the end of 2016;
– Reflect on the book through different styles (for example, a list of 10 things I might have learnt from the non-fiction text or a list of 10 interesting quotes from a fiction text, ratings, or an academic review of the contents); as well as
– Encourage my friends to pick up these books, and gather their thoughts too.
