An Open Call: Community Projects (And Potential Volunteers) In Singapore

In the transition from the classroom to the workplace – especially in the beginning, or when they are settling down or trying to start a family – it is oftentimes difficult for young Singaporeans to keep up with volunteer or community projects. Which is a shame, because many who led or were involved in past endeavours have skills and knowledge which are useful for non-profit organisations (NPO) or community groups. And years later, after settling into a rhythm and clearing some bandwidth to take on new commitments, they may find it challenging to reconnect. There are other groups with similar characteristics too, including: those doing their National Service, undergraduates who want to go beyond their universities, and individuals on gap years.

That is the objective of this short open call, to match the supply of these talents with the demand for their expertise in the NPOs, charities, or community groups as a start, in the lead-up to a bigger community. In the long-term, after all, these needs are best-served by an organic, online platform – many of which in different forms, I am told, have come and gone – but nonetheless I thought I would get something going first. In this vein, drop me an email / a comment / a tweet / a message if:

– You are on the supply side; that is, you want to be plugged into the community or to be involved in a project within an organisation, yet you are not quite sure where to start or how you might potentially contribute; or

– You are on the demand side; that is, you are now running a programme or project – in a more informal or ad hoc arrangement, in particular – and would benefit from some manpower (and resources), in different capacities.

And I will get back to you very soon, and follow up from there! Very excited to hear and share more.
